“After taking up triathlon four years ago to keep fit in the off season for soccer, I quickly realized that my new pass time was about to change forever. Especially when I learnt that even at amateur level triathletes had the chance to represent their country and race fellow competitors from all over the world within each age group. This was a chance for me to experience something that I’d always dreamed about. I knew it would take a few years for me to learn the basics well and be able to participate at a level which i’d truly be content with. Having a swimming background and being able to improve my running each season, I found the bike most frustrating as it never seemed to correlate to my training like the other two, racing in a competitive age group domestically where the top guys could really ride a bike I knew things had to improve. After setting my sights on London when it was first announced, I quickly decided to set about updating my equipment and focusing on improving my weaknesses, I spent the season prior focusing on running and then cramming in my cycling seasons, which meant id burned myself out half through that season by not understanding how to balance my training sessions, but this was a fantastic break through and gave me confidence, knowing that in my best form I could mix it with the top guys here in Melbourne, I needed guidance on how to train on the bike so I could gain form and peak for a big race. After racing Mr Evans several times in sessions past, he was always the one guy you knew that when he put himself on the start line for a big event, he was READY, no bull and no excuses, if you was going to beat this guy you better not have a weakness as he never did…!!! I knew Jarrod was the one person that could point me in the right direction and would get me where I needed to be for race day in London, of course I had to find out if he had the time to help me out and write a program that I could use In prep for worlds. Luckily for me he obliged, with consistent hard work and now knowing that the key sessions I was completing each week was now 100% building my bike fitness the right way. When I got to London I truly felt excited but not nervous, I knew I’d done as much as I could to prepare myself (within reason), I felt that a podium was possible if I’d had a great day in both the Aquathlon and Sprint, it’s a feeling I’ve never experienced before as in the past I’ve always felt I should have done more in my prep. I came 4th in the Aquathlon, considering the traveling etc, I raced well and it was great to just get a race under my belt and made me feel ready for my target race two days after. For the Sprint triathlon I knew that my age group had two waves, so if I wanted to think about making the podium I had to realistically win my wave to stand a chance, race morning was cold and very wet, but I was still just excited with no nerves, the race for my wave finally started and with the water temp being close to 15 degrees I found it hard not to feel cold and then be able to pick up my stroke after the initial sprint for the first can, I was 3rd out of the water but was happy enough, as the front two where only 5secs in front, I felt light headed from the cold while running the 300m to transition, but as I headed for the exit with my bike in t1 I was leading, that was until a TA told me to run back and collect my race belt which I forgot to put on, my race number needed to be worn when riding, and I had now slipped to around 5th when I finally jumped on my bike, I was so angry for being careless and initial thoughts where that my chances of making the podium had gone, I decided to use my anger and trust my training, so I could go as hard as I possible and not blow up. The bike course was very slippy & technical, so I just said to myself you never know what’s going to happen don’t give up, I rode the first lap like a crazy person and nearly went too wide on a couple of early corners, I soon settled into a rhythm and got used to the fact that my carbon breaks are not going to work so well in the pouring rain, the anger helped and I started picking riders off very quickly, by the end of the bike I was joint second and could see first place just up the road, in t2 I fell over as transition was like a mud bath, but I bounced up as quickly as I went down. The run was the hardest part of the race, and for me a like a dream come true, almost like something you might see on tv, their was three of us all running for 1st spot in our wave knowing that even if we came first it might not be enough, I’ve never felt so strong running off the bike I was able to surge and recover quickly, as I tried like hell to break the other guys I was racing side by side with, with 1k to go I could hear that their breathing was heavier than mine so I surged and took a quick recovery and made a break for home with about 300m to go, I was running so scared, but the excitement was awesome, I gained a gap of around 4secs, and then heard my name being announced in the finishing straight that I might have won my age group. It took a while for the results to come through, and it still doesn’t seem real even though I now have the medal to prove it.

Big thanks to Jarrod as his knowledge on what is needed to prepare for such an event is literally like gold (I now have the medal to prove it) with out his insight and help I never would of got close to even making the podium.”

“I started under Jarrod Evans in 2009 with the specific aim of qualifying for the World Ironman Championships in Hawaii 2011. I was immediately impressed by the sheer professionalism that Jarrod conveyed in our initial planning. “I met Jarrod at the end of 2003 whilst doing my work experience to become a personal trainer. Inevitably, I was welcomed to the world of triathlon shortly after. I was very much a novice to say the least. With no swimming or riding background, to complete a mini triathlon was quite a challenge for myself so when I came to Jarrod with the crazy idea on doing an Ironman a couple of years later I believe he was quite surprised. Right from the very start, Jarrod believed that I could do it (although I doubted myself a lot) and so the Ironman journey began. Through all the ups and downs of ironman training and the long days on the road, on the track and in the pool, Jarrod was always right by my side for support and encouragement and also to give me a good push when I needed it. He always believed in me as he does with all his athletes. No matter how talented someone is, if they are willing to work hard and they are committed Jarrod will always support and put his full faith in them. This is what got me to and through my first Ironman and another 2 not long after with Jarrod at all 3 races to support and encourage. Not only has Jarrod been a huge motivation and inspiration to me as an athlete and has helped me achieve goals that I never dreamed possible he has also professionally been a huge influence and mentor to me. I began my personal training career in 2004. Through observing his coaching methods, techniques, his motivation, passion for his athletes, the way he communicates and his work ethic, to say the least, Jarrod as pretty much taught me everything that I know and was always there to help me out whenever I needed. He has a wealth of knowledge and was always the first person that I would go to with questions and for help, he was always willing to help, nothing was ever a hassle. Jarrod also put his full support and faith in me when I became a Triathlon coach and offered me a position with endurance team coaching the first women’s beginner triathlon squad. This was a huge learning experience for me but Jarrod was by my side the whole way. I have now coached ladies who could barely run 3 steps to run half marathons and full marathons, people who could barely swim or ride a bike to do their first triathlon and ultimately Jarrod is responsible for all this. I wouldn’t have enjoyed the success that I have as a personal trainer and coach without Jarrod’s guidance and mentoring. Jarrod’s coaching and support has been exceptional and I would say honestly life changing and I believe this is the only reason why I was able to complete the distance well within my dream time and still be able to walk the next day even though through my own stupidity I suffered a grade 2/3 hamstring tear 13 days prior to Ironman Melbourne! But what worried my more was after the race was contacting Jarrod to update him, just in case he sent me back on my bike for a five hour ride straight away in preparation for IM 2013! What truly amazed me was Jarrod completely knew all my splits and results from throughout the day and was even happier than I was! I joined the number one coach around because I had recently failed dismally and was referred to Jarrod by another athlete Nathan Ashton just in November after I had failed to complete even a ¼ of the Shepparton 70.3 swim. I contacted Jarrod that day while sitting in the sun watching Shepparton 70.3 while others completed the race. As soon as I received the reply I knew Jarrod was exactly what I was after in a coach. I knew I had to be held completely accountable yet I needed completely trust & buy into the whole process. As Jarrod’s initial email stated (and was told this by Nathan and I can now agree with) Jarrod is not for everyone! I mean that respectfully as you have to be driven or at least slightly obsessive to be coached but just an amazing athlete/coach. And to give true context to this I will add that I am not the usual ironman and in fact I only completed my first short course triathlon was 55 weeks ago. But I did not ever feel I was not a part of his team or structure- there was nothing elitist about the team, even though Jarrod is the number one coach in Australia and has the most talented and elite guys in Australia training and competing together on his books. I am the other end of the scale yet have loved every minute of being involved. I work full time and have a young family at home so my time away from them is very precious to me. My training program was customised to suit my family and my work commitments and if I was called away for work Jarrod was always so supportive of all my commitments and made sure I still did more structured training than I wanted too! But it was with this in mind on Ironman morning before the swim that I felt terrified but ok as I just knew I’d get the distance covered. The day went so quickly and it already is a distant memory but the day was so special and the fact I was able to share it with my family and friends locally has meant everything we went through was worth it and I am coming back next year but this time I know a bit more of what to expect and I am prepared to pay the price to complete the course with another PB. Where to from here?  Definitely IM Melbourne 2013 in booked ready to and Shepparton will be fun this year. As soon as I booked in I contacted Jarrod and even sitting down today and refocusing and sending him on my 12 month goals I have to laugh because these goals are fast becoming my reality and more than just a pipedream although the times are now becoming the focus as much as just completing any course was, but the times are now serious! I put these goals down on paper and put on my wall knowing Jarrod had taken a punt on me and I cannot let him or his team down and because of this I will always push myself how harder than I ever felt possible. I won’t be that podium age grouper but I will out there knowing I have been thoroughly prepared and taught what with real discipline my results will take care of themselves. If you are committed to the work and want the number coach in Australia then quite simply I say surround yourself with the industry’s finest Coach and his team and other athletes they are exceptional!”

 “I started training with Jarrod about 4 months out from Port Macquarie Ironman 2012. I had been doing triathlon for about 3 or 4 years and this was my first attempt at an ironman. I had stopped triathlons for about a year before joining Jarrod as like many I had become a bit obsessed with triathlon and overdone it.  So this was going to be a challenge with not a great deal of base and on top of that I also wanted to go under 10 hours. I also needed to make sure I did not repeat my mistakes of the past. Jarrod reassured me that if I did the work and follow the plan I will achieve my goal. Well he was spot on. I completed IM Australia in 9:44. The training plan was precise and allowed me to concentrate on just getting the training done and not worry about if what I was doing was right or wrong. My advice is to get a program from Jarrod follow it and forgot all the other gimmicks that triathletes get caught up in. At the end of the day there is no point having all the best equipment if you have not done the work.”

“I have always wanted to go to Kona, have been close a couple of times before. One of my mates suggested to start training with Jarrod, as he believed he could get me there. On contacting Jarrod he stated “It actually sounds like you really require some polish to your preparation and race day planning rather than a complete over haul”. Seven months later of doing a great training program for someone already time poor, I am off to Kona. Before training with Jarrod I would train myself into the ground, wondering why I was always so tried. With Jarrod’s programs each session has a purpose, whilst being able to complete the next session feeling not smashed. “I had sort Jarrod’s coaching for Port IM after seeing what 2 of my good friends had been able to achieve under his direction, I had previously completed Busso IM in a club scenario; but had decided to do Port on my own due to work commitments and the inability to line up with the club training times. Jarrod and I worked to tailor my plan best utilizing the time training to and from work; this allowed me to spend more time with my family which in training for IM is a challenge in its self. The plan was detailed and suited my goals; we worked on areas I felt I needed to improve and this was noticeable on a monthly basis during the time trial weeks (overall on race day I achieved a 22minute pb on the marathon), the plans are detailed so you don’t have to think about them you can just get out and do the work. If you are looking for results I would recommend being coached by Jarrod; but in the end of the day only you can achieve the results so you have to do the work.”

“Since having 3 children I had started to enjoy endurance activities and had run marathons for 4 years. Prior to that I had never played or competed in any sport. In September 2011, I decided to buy a bike and give triathlon a try, competing in my first tri in November. I then registered for my first Ironman Cairns 2012 and much to my amazement qualified for Kona IM World Championships. At this point I was using another coach who was great but I heard about a coaching program and Jarrod Evans. I decided to enquire about these programs and started with Jarrod with only 4 months to prepare for the biggest race of my life. “On Sunday (16 Dec) I took on Canberra 70.3, my first time over the distance. I can proudly say I finished. I’ve been doing Olympic Distance for the last 4 years and have never been the quickest triathlete but I was ready for the challenge and simply wanted to cross the finish line. When I found Jarrod’s website and Jarrod’s coaching I was impressed to see an active group delivering results which was cost effective. Previously I had worked with programs from the USA, which either made me too slow or simply maxed me out. They were also at large expense. I had only just entered the half-ironman when I found Jarrod’s new complete online programs (20 week Beginner Half-Ironman) which seemed fairly cost effective. Thanks Jarrod for such a great program. It was easy to follow, well sequenced, and allowed me to be flexible with my timing. I also felt challenged and able to get the sessions into my weekly routine. The way the cycle workouts were written allowed me to safely and efficiently complete my rides on my bike on an indoor trainer. This meant I could ride at anytime of the day without seeking out a location, plus my wife was happy for a chat. The long 3.5hour rides were fun and challenging and went well with my iTunes. It also showed me that I was ready to get through the 90km ride. The run workouts were amazing. Whilst it seemed so easy it brought on a greater fitness in my running without maxing me out. The workouts were highly aerobic with a quality element of strength building with hill repeats. I found I could adapt these sessions to wherever I was going, which was mostly my wife’s ballet classes and rehearsals. As she did her ballet I got my runs done quite happily. The swims were great as well. The sessions weren’t too long but really helped build arm strength and helped me to feel ready for the long swim. The Beginner Half-Ironman program helped me work out my nutrition and was exactly what I needed. Thanks Jarrod for your emails, encouragement and helping me get across the line on Sunday. Looking forwards to the next half-ironman and great improvements to come.”

“In June 2013, I set myself the challenge of doing my first ever Ironman race so I signed up to do Ironman Australia 2014 in Port Macquarie. Up until that point, I’d done a few OD’s with average results based on very sporadic training. I only ever intended to do one IM race (this has now changed!) and wanted to give it my best shot so I decided I needed a coach. I’d heard that a guy at my work had gone to Kona so I sought him out for a chat and found out that he was with Jarrod Evans via correspondence. He recommended Jarrod so I gave him a call and fortunately he had a spot opening up for me to start with him as a correspondence athlete in July 2013.

Jarrod introduced me to the world of training. What I used to call training was actually just going for a ride or a run. Through Jarrod, I learned about structured training and the sort of work required in order to get fast. With his vast experience, he was able to set me a plan which had me training HARD but the results were rapid improvement which makes all the work worthwhile. Within 11 months, he built me up from mid pack finishes through to top 10 finishes in Sprint and OD triathlons and ultimately his training allowed me to finish near the front in a very competitive age group (M 35-39) at Ironman Australia. It would have been a top 10 age group finish if not for the time lost with a mechanical issue on the bike. It’s amazing how much I have learned from him in the last 11 months on training, nutrition, injury/illness prevention, body maintenance, etc. My experience with Jarrod and Endurance Team has also given me a hunger to get even faster and do more endurance racing and I look forward to continuing my relationship.”

“Sometimes in life you have thoughts that you may be able to achieve more than what you are currently doing. Whether it be in sport, work or other aspects of your life – you have this feeling that you can achieve more.
