I started under Jarrod Evans in 2009 with the specific aim of qualifying for the World Ironman Championships in Hawaii 2011. I was immediately impressed by the sheer professionalism that Jarrod conveyed in our initial planning. For many years as an age group athlete I trained under my own program to how I felt or what I thought would work for me and like most athletes hit a plateau that I felt was my best. I can category say that under Jarrod’s program and guidance I have managed to shatter that ceiling and continue to get stronger & much more technically efficient. As part of the qualifying process for Hawaii 2011 the first step was to set a goal time for the 2010 Busselton Ironman. What I found refreshing from this point forward was the structured program, the accountability, the ease of/ and direct communication to Jarrod, but most importantly he knew where I was at the whole way through the program. It was definitely a foreign feeling to me but I was completely comfortable knowing through feedback that I was on course. Jarrod was able to predict how my body would be feeling and he was on the money right up to race day, and it was at this point I felt my freshest and strongest; and the results show; qualifying for Hawaii, going 2 ½ minutes faster than the target time we had set for the day.
I found the training opportunities offered by Jarrod Evans to be unparalleled. The altitude training camps were one of the highlights, with the hard miles proving themselves in my subsequent season results – a must attend for all athletes looking to maximize their performance!
I was coached by Jarrod for a three year period. I couldn’t think of a better coach but unfortunately being from Melbourne it was a bit hard to make sessions in Geelong at the time. The bad thing for me is I have never been coached since because I don’t think I would find any other coach in his league and if I can’t get the best I would rather have none!
Jarrod Evans was my coach for a number of years and over this time he helped me achieve quite a few personal goals that probably surprised me more than him. He seemed to just get things right, he knew what I could do if I had the right tools. He was always looking for alternative and new forms of training techniques to give me an edge over my competitors. After hip surgery he not only helped me with my rehab but got me back training and racing competitively again despite being told that it probably wouldn’t happen.
The one thing that stands out for about Jarrod’s coaching style is his passion for his athletes. This was never more evident than in my bid to qualify for the Ironman World Championships at the 2008 &2009 Australian Ironman. After a day where everything was falling into place it all fell apart in the last 5km of the run in 2008.
Jarrod’s disappointment was only slightly overshadowed by my own, his dismay at getting so close was followed by a determination to do it again and succeed the following year. His elation when this happened in 2009 was clear. Tears of joy (Yes I said tears!) replaced the anguish of the previous year and I don’t believe I have ever seen a happier or prouder coach.
My triathlon journey with Jarrod Evans began in 2001. After 12+ Ironman races including 2 Hawaii Ironman’s, I took a break to persue other goals. During that time Jarrod had coached me from an absolute beginner in the sport to an elite level Ironman triathlete, representing Australia at both short and long course World Championships. Jarrod identified my strengths and love for Ironman racing and together as coach and athlete we achieved some great results, including a 4th at Ironman China, 5th at Ironman Malaysia, 6th at Ironman Japan and many top 10 professional Ironman and half Ironman results. Jarrod instilled a hard work ethic in me and through opportunities such as training camps, specialised coaching sessions and high performance coaching programs, he provided me with every opportunity to be the best athlete I could possibly be. My time under Jarrod and his squad was filled with great experiences, achievements and life long friendships.
I started training with Jarrod via correspondence. I have a pretty busy schedule with significant work and family commitments so it was important to me to access quality coaching which was tailored to those commitments. I also wanted someone who I could talk to if I needed and had the same passion for the sport as I do. The majority of my training is done by myself but having two firsts, a second, a fifth and a Kona qualification in my last 5 AG races that’s been no impediment. I’ve been really pleased with the journey so far with Jarrod and can’t wait for my next Kona.
I started my triathlon training with Jarrod back at the inception of the original Positive Image triathlon squad over 20 years ago. Back then there were only 4 people in the squad. It didnt take long for the group to grow through Jarrod’s hard work and the results his athletes were achieving at races. Triathlon is such an addictive sport that after each race you would want to improve and there was no better environment than being amongst a group of people that all had similar goals, all feeding off each other’s success. During my 10+ years with the squad I competed in all distances from sprint to Ironman and loved every minute of it. I made so many great life long friends, enjoyed a fun and healthy lifestyle and fulfilled so many of my sporting dreams. Thanks Jarrod for making all that possible.
Since my first meeting with Jarrod over 10 years ago I was a new inexperienced member of a fitness centre. And was seeking guidance with the best way to get fit and healthy. During that time I spent with Jarrod he gave me the motivation and inspiration to try my hand at swimming as a different way to keep fit and prepared my first swimming program for me. Six months later and with no real background in swimming I had become very proficient and was swimming for longer and faster and finishing in the Top 20 of the summers open water swimming events. It was with the results that Jarrod had brought me I had decided that a career in the fitness industry is what I wanted to do with my life after gaining my Certificate in fitness 8 years ago Jarrod was a constant As a point of contact for me, nothing was ever a problem for him in regards to me asking him questions as he has a wealth of knowledge I can honestly say Jarrod has been a very big part of developing me in to the career I’m in now. From starting as a gym instructor to managing large fitness centre’s running a profitable personal training company and owning a fitness centre and now senior person in the fitness industry with my advice now relied on to assist people who were just like me when I first started. All of the above would never been a possibility had Jarrod not been a positive mentor to me in the 10 years plus I have known him and I would certainly recommend Jarrod to anyone who is looking for the impossible to become possible.
As everybody knows the times to try and qualify for the Hawaiian Ironman are becoming harder and harder to achieve each year.
After my 4th time trying it was now or never so I looked into acquiring a triathlon coach. In June 2010 after speaking to Jarrod for the first time I totally believed I could achieve anything if I put in the hard work. Time constraints with work and a young family meant that I needed a very personalised program to utilise all my available time. I knew after my first lead up race under Jarrod that we were on the right track. I achieved a personal best and this set the tone for the rest of my training leading up to my qualifying race in New Zealand. I went onto achieve my ultimate dream and qualified for the 2011 Hawaiian Ironman in 9hrs 20 mins and 5th in my age group. The level of support and guidance leading up to and during the event was exceptional and exceeded my expectations. I can say without hesitation that without his knowledge I would not be about to live ‘the dream.
